How To Use Internet Leads

I think the reason that insurance agents get frustrated with internet leads is because they don’t understand how to use them correctly. You cannot receive an internet lead in your email, and then just treat it like it came from yellow pages ad!
Internet Leads Expect the Internet!
Consumers who fill out internet leads often expect to be communicated with by email. They like being able to run online quotes, and to refer to a website so they can learn more about you. If you are going to use internet leads, I would suggest having a suite of internet tools you can refer your client to. This could be as simple as a website with your business information on it, and a simple contact form. Ideally, the website may include online quotes, calculators, and articles and insurance buying tips. Of course, the whole point of your website is to leave a little piece of yourself in the potential client’s home or office!
Internet Leads Tend To Bring Affluent Clients
They tend to be a better educated, and more affluent group than the average consumer, but on the other hand they also tend to be more self directed. They tend to like to make their own decisions and have probably been doing some shopping. You need to be aware of other insurance products on the market and able to demonstrate why you should be their insurance agent, and why your products are superior or more affordable!
Don’t be Afraid To Email!
Actually internet leads are great for more phone shy agents because these type of clients tend to actually read their email, especially if you make it very clear that it is in response to their lead request. If you cannot contact them by phone, do not be afraid to introduce yourself by email! Outline your service and ask them to expect a phone call. Be friendly and conversational.
If you sell you’ll sell!
What I mean here is, if the client is really looking for a product you have, or if you can convince them that your product is better for them than what they had in mind, you will make a sale. Sometimes I have closed these clients without even having to drive to see them, or meet them at the office. They are usually happy to buy online or with faxed applications. That’s how I like to do business these days, and so do they!
